Teacher Appreciation

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. The kids spent the week doing various things to honor their teachers. Hailey participated in hug your teacher day, wear your teacher's favorite color, dress up day, give your teacher a homemade card day, and gift day. For her teacher gift this year, we made canned candy. It was just a really fun, and pretty simple way to package her teacher's favorite sweet treats.

I bought some small cans of fruit with the pop top lid, cut the bottom off with a can opener, and emptied the contents of the can for my kids to eat later. A smooth edge can opener  works best for this and Pampered Chef makes a great one! I took the label off, being sure to save it for a template and ran the cans and bottoms through the dishwasher. When Hailey got home from school, I had her make new labels for the cans, then we filled them with candy, added tissue paper to the bottom, and hot glued the bottom back on. We tied some ribbon and a note on and they were ready to go! I think we may have confused the teachers a bit...they really weren't sure what to do, or why they were getting green beans for teacher appreciation week, but once we convinced them to pop the top, they were pleasantly surprised.

Speaking of teachers, Hailey has a wonderful kindergarten teacher, and right now her teacher and her family are in need of prayers. Miss Watts' brother Sam is a soldier and was wounded in Afghanistan a few weeks ago. While he did survive, his prognosis is not good. The doctors have informed his family that his brain was severely damaged and that he will not regain consciousness, there is no brain activity. His family is with him today. Please keep this family in your prayers, especially during the next few days and weeks. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy.
