Birthday Surprise!

On February 21, my mom celebrated her 60th birthday...one day later we surprised her with a little family party. We kept things low key since A) When we were planning we weren't sure when Sadie would arrive and B) We are having a big 40th anniversary party for my parents this summer.

We got to my sister's house just before lunch and we ate and then had the kids help make the birthday banner. Then it was time to put the plan into action. The basic plan was that Natalie was going to call my mom and have her pick up something from the store and bring it over to her house - a pretty normal occurrence for them. As soon as mom left, dad, was supposed to drive over so that he would be there for the surprise. It almost worked.

Natalie called mom and told her that Logan was sick, that he had a fever, and she was all out of medicine. Paul was gone at a concealed carry class and so could she please go pick up some medicine and bring it by. Natalie, of course, couldn't go because the boys were down for their nap and naptime is sacred. Mom said sure, and the plan was set in motion.

Only Dad never came and he didn't answer his phone.

Mom arrived and the kids had a blast yelling surprise and happy birthday. We certainly surprised her! Dad, evidently was asleep on the couch at home. He did eventually come and we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening together. Natalie made a great dinner and Sadie got to meet her Aunt Megan and Uncle Dennis and her cousins.

Happy Birthday Mom! I hope you enjoyed!
