The Little Things

It has been a busy spring taking care of little things in and outside of our home. I have a spring birthday and I have been using up birthday money and gift cards on a number of little projects that have been on my to do list.

#1 - New window treatment on our master bathroom window. The window was previously covered with white plastic mini blinds and a hideously plain white curtain that looked like an old bedsheet. Here is the window now...

Just a brown cordless cellular shade, but it works for us right now. I still may do something else, but that is a project for another time.

#2 - A full length mirror! Prior to the purchase and installation of this mirror, if I wanted to check out a full view of something I was wearing, I would perch myself precariously atop a step stool in the kids bathroom and alternate between squatting and tiptoes in order to see myself. Not exactly the most practical, though I am sure quite hilarious to observe.

#3 - Bedside lamps. We don't have a very big master bedroom so it is unlikely that we will have large bedside tables (the tables that are there now are a childhood relic that I spray painted this fall, much improving them - they are a little low, as you can see or not see from the picture, but they work for now). Since I didn't think we would have room for a table lamp, we opted for wall mounted lamps. I really like our choice.

#4 - Mirror for our laundry/half bathroom. There was no mirror above the sink in our laundry room/half bathroom. Most likely this is because the electrical panel is above that sink (covered by a door). But it always felt strange to me, plus that room is right by the back door so the mirror is perfect for a quick check before heading out. I was super excited to find a mirror that sort of fit here. I ended up buying a craft mirror that you usually use for table decorations. I think it worked great.

#5 - A new wall-mounted drying rack. Since my laundry room is rather tiny, there is no room to set up my drying rack, which means I have to find an alternative space to set it up. This means I am either constantly taking it down and setting it up, or it is just being left up all the time in our already cluttered office space. So I found this wall mounted drying rack and so far I've really liked it. It folds up flat against the wall when not it use, but we also hung it high enough that it could stay out and not be in the way.

We've also been doing a lot of little things outside, preparing our yard and garden for summer. I'll share those projects soon!

  1. I LOVE how you have maximized your spaces! And you have inspired me to install a full length mirror because I too do the step-stool up & down dance in our bathroom!!!!
