So Matt shared this story from yesterday on facebook, but I wanted to record it here as well.
Yesterday we were out finishing up our Christmas shopping and taking Mari to her 9 month check-up. She checked out just fine, though they are starting to comment on how small she is. No concerns at this time, just noting it. Hailey was at school, so it was just the four of us and we decided to get lunch at Denny's. Not our usual choice but the boys were in the mood for breakfast.
While we were there, we noticed two older ladies who of course flirted with Mari when we walked in and were watching her eat. They were ahead of us in line to pay, but I decided to take the kids out to get them loaded up in the van while Matt waited. We ended up walking out just ahead of them and Micah wanted to hold the door for them...so he did. They started talking to him, asked him his name and his sister's name. Then they asked him what Santa was bringing him for Christmas...Well the only present he knows about is a wallet because he was shopping with me and helped me pick it out. So he told them he was getting a wallet. They asked him if there was any money in his wallet, and he told them, "Nope, not yet." (He knew this because he checked all of the wallets when we were shopping and even asked me where the money was.) So they proceeded to pull out their wallets and fill his little hands with $1.50 to put in his new wallet. He was so excited and they were so sweet. After a thank you and a Merry Christmas we were headed home with an exited little boy who kept telling me that he just had to go put this money in his wallet.
Matt and I bought this ornament on our first anniversary trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan. When we we engaged, we lived several hours apart as we each completed our internships. It was a very difficult year for me in that I was living in a new town and didn't know anyone. I was living alone and I was terrible at it. I can remember driving away signing I Love You and crying. Ah, young love. We did and still do use the I Love You sign quite often. In fact, Hailey has picked up on it as well and often signs I Love You to me and Matt, most often as I'm walking out of her room after putting her and Mari to bed.
