On Monday, we toured the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. It was really incredible. I highly recommend the museum and am currently planning a return trip...perhaps involving my parents (you would love it). I don't have any pictures from that day for two reasons. The first being that we forgot to bring our camera, the second being there aren't a lot of photo opportunities at the museum anyway. Photographs are not allowed in the majority of the museum. The museum kept the kids attention pretty well and both of the "shows" were really well done - though one was pretty intense at times. It was truly fascinating and I can't encourage you enough to make the trip - if you do, let us know, perhaps we will join you.
On Tuesday, we continued our tour of the Land of Lincoln with a visit to Lincoln's New Salem. It is a recreated village where Lincoln lived and worked as a young man. Although it was extremely hot, we had a good time exploring the homes and lives of those who lived during the 1800s. After we finished up a New Salem, we headed to a family friend's house to swim for the afternoon.
Wednesday brought relief from the intense heat and we went to see Lincoln's tomb and the Capitol Building. Both were quite impressive and we even made the news! They happened to have the vault open this week only and while were were there a news team came to cover the story. Click here for the news coverage.
After lunch for the kids, Matt's brave mom came to babysit all 8 kids while we went out to lunch, a quick tour of our church, and ice cream. As usual we had to introduce our friends to the local special - the horseshoe; a tower of bread, meat, and french fries topped with cheese sauce - trust me, it's delicious. After we got home,we picnicked, had s'mores and enjoyed the beautiful evening.
Can't wait until we can all get together again!

Sounds like a good time. You can keep the horseshoes though...lol
