Rally Day

Yesterday was the official start of Sunday School at our church. We didn't really refer to it as Rally Day this year and we had "unofficial" Sunday School through the month of August, but yesterday was the first day of the new program. It was also my first day as the teacher of the lapsit class.

I decided to start up the lapsit class for kids 2 and under because I knew that the church had done something in the past; and I don't like sitting around doing nothing for the Sunday School hour since I have a baby with me and really can't be a part of an adult class (last year I had a toddler).

I modeled the class after the lapsit program we attended at our local library in our previous town. They had an extremely successful program filled with songs and finger plays and of course books. We have lots of songs and poems, a Bible Story and hopefully a relaxed atmosphere that lets the littles be, well, little. We end our time with an optional craft - and I think yesterday was pretty successful. And it wasn't just me and Mari hanging out for an hour - although that's pretty great too.

The rest of Sunday School went well too. Hailey and Micah enjoyed their class and the new format. I was really impressed with the number of kids that were in attendance. My prayer is that they would continue to come and be fed with the Word of God and that the program would continue to grow. I don't know all of the history, but from my observations last year, despite dedicated and caring teachers, Sunday School attendance was very low for a church with so many children in it. I am excited to see what happens this year and how God works in the lives of the families who are participating.

  2. We just started a lapsit class at our church for the same reason. It drove me crazy that Kari couldn't go to Sunday School until 3 and I couldn't go to Bible class because I had her. I'd love to hear what resources you are using since we are working from scratch!
