The Chocolate Touch

Hailey's school hosted the first Family Book Club night last week. We had read The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling as a family - sort of. Matt wasn't always able to be there when we were reading; hopefully he will be able to be there more for the next one.

Last week we went to school for the Chocolate Party. We did some graphing with M&Ms, dipped pretzels in chocolate, had a book discussion, ate chocolate fondue, and illustrated our favorite part of the book. Well, Hailey did these things and we helped.

It was so much fun! I was so impressed with Hailey because they have been working really hard on learning to read and spell the color words and she was able to place each M&M on the correct color column without any assistance or even hesitation! Awesome! I think this was her favorite station because she really likes M&Ms and she got to eat them when she was finished.

Our final stop was the illustration. Hailey's favorite part of the book was when John Midas kissed his mom and she turned into chocolate. So that is what she drew. And I'm choosing not to analyze why that would be her favorite part! (That's the mom in the middle and there are gold rain drops, a sun, sky, cloud, and purple box).

A big thank you to the teachers who organized and helped out with this. I'm really looking forward to the next book!
