Apple Orchard or Bust

Hailey had this past Thursday and Friday off school so Matt took Friday off and we decided to check out an area apple orchard. I was looking forward to walking around on a beautiful fall morning with the kids, taking lots of pictures, buying some apples and cider, and having a cider donut.

It didn't quite live up to my high expectations. The orchard was fine, unfortunately it was just like going to a store. There wasn't anything to do. We did get apples, cider, and I did have a cider donut - in the van.

I was sort of bummed so Matt decided we would just drive around a bit and we found ourselves at our Memorial Garden Nature Center. So we got out and walked around and managed to get lots of pictures, though Micah was not very cooperative.

It was a beautiful morning - though a little chilly and windy as we walked closer to the lake. The nature center had a few turtles and fish and we explored inside a little. After we had been there a bit, Hailey told us she had been here before. And then we remembered that she had come here last year on a preschool field trip. There were a lot of trails and I am looking forward to a return trip to do some more hiking.

Next apple orchard trip we will look for a different place with more to do, but all around it turned out just fine.

  1. I feel like that's the new trend with orchards today...less picking and enjoying fall and family time...more shopping...We have trouble finding a place where you can just go and pick a bushel of apples...I LOVED that as a kid...we'd pick tons of apples then go home and bake...now you have to buy the apples already picked and they're more expensive than at the grocery store....

You're always welcome to come up for a pumpkin day at Dollingers!!! No apples, but you knew that. :)
