Sunday night we had an open house where we took our school supplies and put them away on a little scavenger hunt. Hailey was pretty quiet through the whole thing, but she did participate. We came home, ate a quick dinner, and read, "The Night Before Kindergarten," before getting to bed early.
Monday morning, we were up early for a special breakfast of Chocolate Chip Muffins and Sausage. I let Hailey choose what she wanted for breakfast on such a special day. We got ready, had a morning devotion, took some pictures, and we all headed to school for Hailey's first day.
Once we got there, she started to get nervous again. She reluctantly practiced her morning routines and then it was time for us to leave. And she got clingy.
So we left her screaming, being held back by her teacher on her first day.
Being Hailey's mother is nothing if not dramatic. And since she was handling the crying part of the day, I did not feel the need to join in.
We were informed by one of the mothers that she was calm and in her seat in less than a minute. That stinker.
We stayed for opening chapel and watched her walk in with her class and we even got a great big smile and wave as she walked back to her class.
She came home from school (it was a short day) all smiles and gave me a big hug. I didn't get too much out of her in our conversation. Pretty much that she sat on the rug next to her friend Caroline. But she is looking forward to another day and lunch at school!
As I was looking at the pictures I took this morning I discovered a funny little coincidence...
...she wore the same outfit on the last day of preschool.

Awwww...sweet Hailey! It's all going to be fine!! At least that's what I keep telling myself about Lily starting Pre-K on Thursday. The crying and clinging to my leg with a death grip on the last two days of school isn't giving me much hope.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Hailey's special day. I'm looking forward to doing a post like this one in a couple days.
